“Can a Fisherman Go to Heaven?"
By Dr. Steven J. Moffett - Pastor/Evangelist
About 30 years ago, I made my first trip to northern Canada for a wilderness fly in - fishing trip. I told my wife this would be
a once in a lifetime trip! I have been back every year since.
The beauty of this wilderness is breathtaking. I have seen eagles soar, moose run, bears play, bobcats roam and have
shared many shore lunches of fresh caught Walleye with my fishing buddies. Of course, during any fishing trip you must
listen to people tell fish stories. Some of the stories are funny and some of them are hard to believe.
When seeing the beauty of God*s creation, it is hard to understand how anyone could say that there is NO God! The fact of
the matter is, not everyone is able to see the beauty of God*s creation because many live in sad and ugly conditions. When
Adam sinned, he brought corruption/death to the face of the earth. Every day since then, sin continues to take its toll on the
earth and on man. Have you noticed things around the world are getting worse and not better?
The Bible teaches that "all men have sinned!" Yes, all men, even Preachers, Sunday school teachers, and all Church
members have sinned. God's Word, the Bible, teaches that because of our sin we must be judged; and, without salvation
through Jesus Christ we will spend eternity in Hell - the Lake of Fire.
The good news is that God does not want anyone to die and go to hell! That is why Jesus willingly came down from
heaven, was born unto the virgin Mary, lived without sin and died on Calvary's Cross, was buried and rose from the dead
that we could be Saved from our sins by trusting in God's gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ
How to Get to Heaven
Who has Sinned? Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God"
God's price on Sin - Romans 6:23a "for the wages of Sin is Death"
God's Gift - Romans 5:8 "but God commendeth His love towards us, in that while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us"
You can be Saved today - Romans 10:13 "for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be Saved" Whosoever
includes you. Shall be saved means not maybe, nor can, but shall be saved. Surely, you realize you are a sinner. Right now,
wherever you are, repenting, lift your heart to God in prayer
In Luke 18:13, the sinner prayed: “God be merciful to me a sinner.” Just pray: “Oh God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus
was my substitute when He died on the Cross. I believe His shed blood, death, burial, and resurrection were for me. I now
receive Him as my Savior. I thank You for the forgiveness of my sins, the gift of salvation and everlasting life, because of
Your merciful grace. Amen.”
Just take God at His word and claim His salvation by faith. Believe, and you will be saved. No church, no good works can save
you. Remember, God does the saving. All of it! Romans 10:13 "for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
